Signs that the world is coming to an end

HIP HOP

NOT HIP HOP

YOUUUUUUUUU! Soulja Boy lies #1 atop of the billboard hot 100 charts. I’m not surprised, disgusted, but not surprised. White kids name Billy O’ Shea and black girls name Boomshika Jones are the ones who makes Black Face-of-the-new-millennium popular.

Would you like to contribute to the demise of hip hop? Yes!? Ok! Here’s what you do:
-Get a catchy snappy beat.
-Make up a ghey dance that correlates with the song.
-Throw a bunch of simple words together that rhymes (if they don’t rhyme then try to twist the word around so it sounds like it rhymes).
-Get some type of accessory such as sun-glasses as your trademark.

There you have it! You too could be at the top of the charts with these simple steps! There’s a catch though, kiss your dignity good bye.

I wouldn’t necessarily take this seriously but a certain part of society thinks this is hip hop! I was flipping through CNN and I saw a youtube video of someone doing the ‘Superman’ dance. The reporter said, “Hip hop artist Soulja boy”--------NO! I googled CNN to see if I can find a contact number so I could call live and explain what is Hip hop/not but I was unsuccessful.

Prepare yourselves my fellow hip hop heads, we have entered into the age of ringtone sales.

I’ll leave you all with a funny quote, “it’s a shame what the game has come to”. That came out of the mouth of Jadakiss. But then again…wtf you doing on the ‘A Bay Bay remix’ you contradicting bafoon?

I don't think its just Hip Hop but Music in general half of the stuff on the radio is freaking retarded. I agree really what sells is some catchy snappy beat, and some gay dance! You and I are victimS of the soulja boy dance or the superman dance whatever you want to call it! All of this I guess is pop culture and I think all of artist have come to the point that its not about the music or the fans, but about the green!!!! If it sells than it works and therefore its music, at least to them and even some people it is!!!

Great Post!!!

Yeppers, we're victims of the superman dance lol. Eh..

It's not about music, it's about money. Who cares if you look ridiculous little Ray Ray! You're going to be rich!...cough-temporarily-cough. Sell your soul---I mean sign your name right here.

There's still good music out there, you just have to look into other genres. Turn off the radio, it's bad for you lol

You make some valid points, I think it's a great post, you have a straightforward and humorous take on it, but just like Janet Jackson showing "just a nipple", I guess it's "not that serious".
I mean no disrespect but the de-moralization and lack of dignity overly apparent in our society isn't to be taken leniently.
The watered down songs that crowd our airwaves are more than catchy, unfavorably categorized forms of "music", they are, as you've said, a true sign where we as a society are heading.
Whether you choose to see it or not, we've embellished belittling ourselves in the media.
American-culture as a whole, albeit mainly African-American, have portrayed ourselves as slang-spewing, ill-dressed, uneducated, ignorant, greedy, products of consumerism.

[I'm going to stop now, because although, I could go on, but I'd just be retorting because of your comment on my last post, and basically, I'd just make your point...more.]

Basically, kudos. :)

Good point Beek, African-Americans (not all) have been portraying themselves as slang-spewing, ill-dressed, uneducated, ignorant sheep.

Soulja boy is a prime example of how people like Bill O'Riley looks down upon the African-American culture. No one should look down upon anyone, although, could you blame Bill for thinking wtf are these people doing?

Sasha Sapio said...

Cruz do you think that the people that listen to that type of music are being defined by it? Can someone be judged by their appearance / preferences?

Cruz said...

You shouldn’t judge people by their appearance/preference.

It is possible to see me doing the 'superman' dance as a joke. Now if you don't know I’m joking...it does look like I’m dead serious from the outside looking in. So, we shouldn’t prematurely judge.

But DAMN...when you got 100 + people in their video's following along...it does set off an image straight from the farms of North Dakota for me.

Society will not take you seriously if you look and act the way Soulja Boy does. Same as an employer would not hire you if you're wearing some flamboyant outfit with Bathing Ape shoes (unless you're applying at the Flea Market).

I personally don't have a problem with that type of music, but that doesn't mean I'm going to blast it on my iPOD or "cop" the CD. Now, your right, the radio isn't safe. It's a box of noise only meant for putting on the dancefloor.
They should keep that music to clubs.
I like Jadakiss, but yeah, that comment of his was hypocritical.
It applies for Pop music, too.
But I like the post.

You're right. I just wanted your opinion, because sometimes I feel like it's a bit contradictive...

Anonymous said...

Who's "HIP HOP" at the top?

Cruz said...

Contradictive is a funny word. I think I might make a LED bult with it.

The 'Hip Hop' is Atmosphere. Underground lyricist.

Sasha Sapio said...

"Contradictive" is what you may look like from the outside, bashing radio "Hip-Hop" but looking like a monger of it...

*bult? ;)

Cruz said...

Spelling Nazi, 'BELT'.

; )

The nonchalant side of me could careless if I come off contradictive… It's a gift and a curse.

Sasha Sapio said...

Cruz, don't get me wrong, you don't dress with the butt of your pants at the back of your knees or anything.
I just wondered if you felt you would be perceived like some ignorant Young Cheezy Generation replica..
Don't mind me.
I like your post,
I like your feedback,
I just wanted to rebuttal a bit..

:D

Cruz said...

Yes! As a matter of fact, I have been perceived as a 'half-breed'. That was a funny day lol.

That's why I’m trying to clean up my act a little more (wardrobe, language, etc). I use to dress the way I did, not because everyone else was doing it, but because I felt comfortable with my style. People labeled me ghetto, eh go figure. People will always analyze and make assumptions and that… will never change.

Sasha Sapio said...

Okay, Okay.

I can respect that.

:D

~Nessa~ said...

I read your reply to the "hip-hop" at the top, lol, and I just have to say, that if the face of "HIP-HOP" becomes that of Atmosphere, I'd be equally disappointed.
It would be as if they're confused..like Jam Master Jay meets Rob Thomas...

~Nessa~ said...

No, actually, -scratch that-. I'd prefer that then Doodle-Bear Soulja Boy anyday! lol

Cruz said...

Read my previous post from past months Nessa, I use to do a HIP HOP/NOT post every two weeks or so and each week I would post a picture of a different hip hop artist. I'm not saying Atmosphere is my definition of hip hop, it's just his time to shine on my page ; )

~Nessa~ said...

Oh, okay. Yeah so I've heard. I was just lazy, I've only gotten to your first page of posts, but
will do!

lol =)

That is rerally pathetic, I seriously dont turn on the radio anymore. And I find BET disgraceful. Did you hear about the march they had in front of the CEO of BET's home?
Now THAT is what we need to stand up and do. Not commemorate this commercial crap.
I hope Hip Hop has a revolution and more voices speak up, but I'm going to do my part and boycott that bullshit!!!!!
Kudos to you and bringing the light over here in subterfuge =)

Cruz said...

Thanks, but sadly, there won't be a revolution. Don't get me wrong, i'm all for it. But there is no dollars in it. There is no dollars in Nas, no. Not unless he comes up with a ghey dance move or something...

The title is perfect for the post. I don't listen to any music outside of my CD collection, so I have to trust that "Soulja Boy" is really as pathetic as his name sounds.
"Black-face-of-the-new-millenium", I'm surprised sasha didnt retort on that one, lol.
It's sad, and yes, like you guys said, it makes the African-American culture look bad from the perspective any random person would have looking in.

I just wish things like this and the freethejenasix. issue would stop. Enough is enough.
I really like your new post/outlooks.

I can't sit here and pretend that I know what IS and is NOT hip-hop, so I wont try to.
But that doesnt mean that I cant see that music has changed over time and the dignity has been replaced by greed. Like you basically said.
I guess the passion for music is gone because the lust for cash has replaced it.
Its good to hear you write about it =)

NOW THATS REAL.
I DONT HEAR 2 MUCH ABOUT 'WHY' THE HIP HOP GAME IS - FULL OF GAMES. NOBODY KEEPS IT REAL, BUT UR PRETTY MUCH SAYING THAT THESE NIGGAS WITH THESE WACK ASS SONGS HITTING THE TOP CHARTS ARE PUTTING DOWN THIER PRIDE JUST TO SELL RECORDS. THEY BOAST ABOUT THIER TOP SINGLES N ALL THAT BULLSHIT WHEN WHAT IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO IS LACK OF HEART. THESE SONGS LACK SUBSTANCE - "SOULJA BOY" IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY OUT THERE ALL OVER THE RADIO THAT MAKE ME WISH THEY HAD SHAME ON THEMSELVES. THAT SHIT IS EMBARRASING, N THE PPL THAT BUT INTO IT ARE JUST BEING LAUGHED AT. EVERYTIME I SEE SOME FOOL DOING ONE OF THEIR LAME ASS DANCES I SHAKE MY HEAD AT THE STUPIDITY. GROWN ASS MEN ACTING LIKE KIDS ITS RIDICULOUS.
UR STEP TO STEP ON HOW TO ADD TO THIS NEW AGE HIP HOP IS HILARIOUS.
STAY WITH THE MOVEMENT.
KEEP DOING UR THING.

Yea you might catch me laughing at Soulja Boy but i'm not laughing with him...i'm laughing at him.

Make a new sub-genre in hip-hop and add BS like this into it. Hip hop will then be fine.

Nice post, Rad.
Yea.. I'm pretty sure this was in the book of Revelations.

This music is just so sickening already. We're in the year 2008 and you would think that artists.. no matter what genre.. would want to elevate minds with their music...

What's worse is that these rappers sell millions! It's amazing..

Okay.. not trying to bring the race card into play... but idk if you've ever hung out with "white suburbia"... Most Caucasian young adults that listen to anyyyy kind of rap.. know EVERY damn lyric to these songs, like Lollipop, that we here on 102 Jamz or see on BET... but they have NO IDEA who the hell I'm talking about if I say... Lupe Fiasco? Talib Kweli? some are even like.. "Who the hell is Nas??"

So they listen to rap... but they prob. have nooooo idea who the pioneers of Hip Hop are....

.. Now.... who do you think is to blame???
I can pretty much blame 85% on B.E.T.

I mean.. even African Americans are having identity crisis situations from watching this garbage... They think Tall T's and Grills are something a real woman runs after.

And what's worse... is that we have these stereotypes thrown on hip hop... just from this wack poison.

Like the other day I went to this Chinese restaurant... and they had quater toy machines for kids.. One was like "Hip Hop" style toys... it LITERALLY said "Hip Hop"...
The toys included: a fake gold watch... a necklace rockin a pair of HANDCUFFS and another with a GUN... HUGE rhinestone earring stickers... FAKE grills...i mean... it was disgusting...
I think it was Plies' idea... he mustve gotten together w. Nelly. LMFAO all it was missing was 50's vitamin water.

anyway.. yea i went totally off topic.. but yeaa

great post lol

BET is horrible. I saw a show once called Hot Ghetto Mess...do black people really like that show? Imagine a bunch of Spanish people creating a show about them mowing lawns and call it Hot Spic Mess. They should be ashamed of themselves with that one. They're just adding fuel to the white Nazi power like Bill O'Reily that just sits back at his desk and says, "look at these coons, look at em". Keep shucking and jiving and showing your teeth, you're just adding fuel to the fire.
