YOUUUUUUUUU! Soulja Boy lies #1 atop of the billboard hot 100 charts. I’m not surprised, disgusted, but not surprised. White kids name Billy O’ Shea and black girls name Boomshika Jones are the ones who makes Black Face-of-the-new-millennium popular.
Would you like to contribute to the demise of hip hop? Yes!? Ok! Here’s what you do:
-Get a catchy snappy beat.
-Make up a ghey dance that correlates with the song.
-Throw a bunch of simple words together that rhymes (if they don’t rhyme then try to twist the word around so it sounds like it rhymes).
-Get some type of accessory such as sun-glasses as your trademark.
There you have it! You too could be at the top of the charts with these simple steps! There’s a catch though, kiss your dignity good bye.
I wouldn’t necessarily take this seriously but a certain part of society thinks this is hip hop! I was flipping through CNN and I saw a youtube video of someone doing the ‘Superman’ dance. The reporter said, “Hip hop artist Soulja boy”--------NO! I googled CNN to see if I can find a contact number so I could call live and explain what is Hip hop/not but I was unsuccessful.
Prepare yourselves my fellow hip hop heads, we have entered into the age of ringtone sales.
I’ll leave you all with a funny quote, “it’s a shame what the game has come to”. That came out of the mouth of Jadakiss. But then again…wtf you doing on the ‘A Bay Bay remix’ you contradicting bafoon?

I don't think its just Hip Hop but Music in general half of the stuff on the radio is freaking retarded. I agree really what sells is some catchy snappy beat, and some gay dance! You and I are victimS of the soulja boy dance or the superman dance whatever you want to call it! All of this I guess is pop culture and I think all of artist have come to the point that its not about the music or the fans, but about the green!!!! If it sells than it works and therefore its music, at least to them and even some people it is!!!

You make some valid points, I think it's a great post, you have a straightforward and humorous take on it, but just like Janet Jackson showing "just a nipple", I guess it's "not that serious".
I mean no disrespect but the de-moralization and lack of dignity overly apparent in our society isn't to be taken leniently.
The watered down songs that crowd our airwaves are more than catchy, unfavorably categorized forms of "music", they are, as you've said, a true sign where we as a society are heading.
Whether you choose to see it or not, we've embellished belittling ourselves in the media.
American-culture as a whole, albeit mainly African-American, have portrayed ourselves as slang-spewing, ill-dressed, uneducated, ignorant, greedy, products of consumerism.

Soulja boy is a prime example of how people like Bill O'Riley looks down upon the African-American culture. No one should look down upon anyone, although, could you blame Bill for thinking wtf are these people doing?

It is possible to see me doing the 'superman' dance as a joke. Now if you don't know I’m joking...it does look like I’m dead serious from the outside looking in. So, we shouldn’t prematurely judge.
But DAMN...when you got 100 + people in their video's following along...it does set off an image straight from the farms of North Dakota for me.
Society will not take you seriously if you look and act the way Soulja Boy does. Same as an employer would not hire you if you're wearing some flamboyant outfit with Bathing Ape shoes (unless you're applying at the Flea Market).
I personally don't have a problem with that type of music, but that doesn't mean I'm going to blast it on my iPOD or "cop" the CD. Now, your right, the radio isn't safe. It's a box of noise only meant for putting on the dancefloor.
They should keep that music to clubs.

Yes! As a matter of fact, I have been perceived as a 'half-breed'. That was a funny day lol.
That's why I’m trying to clean up my act a little more (wardrobe, language, etc). I use to dress the way I did, not because everyone else was doing it, but because I felt comfortable with my style. People labeled me ghetto, eh go figure. People will always analyze and make assumptions and that… will never change.

Read my previous post from past months Nessa, I use to do a HIP HOP/NOT post every two weeks or so and each week I would post a picture of a different hip hop artist. I'm not saying Atmosphere is my definition of hip hop, it's just his time to shine on my page ; )

The title is perfect for the post. I don't listen to any music outside of my CD collection, so I have to trust that "Soulja Boy" is really as pathetic as his name sounds.

I can't sit here and pretend that I know what IS and is NOT hip-hop, so I wont try to.
But that doesnt mean that I cant see that music has changed over time and the dignity has been replaced by greed. Like you basically said.
I guess the passion for music is gone because the lust for cash has replaced it.

The toys included: a fake gold watch... a necklace rockin a pair of HANDCUFFS and another with a GUN... HUGE rhinestone earring stickers... FAKE grills...i mean... it was disgusting...

BET is horrible. I saw a show once called Hot Ghetto Mess...do black people really like that show? Imagine a bunch of Spanish people creating a show about them mowing lawns and call it Hot Spic Mess. They should be ashamed of themselves with that one. They're just adding fuel to the white Nazi power like Bill O'Reily that just sits back at his desk and says, "look at these coons, look at em".
